Mental Health & Self Help

All of us at some time or another in our lives will lack motivation and be full of self-doubt, common areas this can crop up in are before exams when we panic we haven't studied hard enough or just before giving an important speech.

However, some people suffer from low self-esteem on a regular basis and doubting themselves is the norm for these people, along with low self-esteem issues people can also suffer from lack of motivation.

With common thoughts being "what will people think of me if I make the wrong decision" and "I'm not good enough to pull this off" both being common thoughts and feelings. For those who suffer from low self-esteem issues here are several pointers to help you realise your full potential and to help get you motivated.

* Don't give in to self-doubts - by giving in to self-doubts you are falling deeper into the trap. Identify the feelings and thoughts you have such as "I'm not good enough" and just let them go, paying as little attention to them as you possibly can, cast them aside and feel them floating away as quickly as they enter your mind.

* Remind yourself of your uniqueness - instead of focusing on the things you think you cant do or achieve, focus on what you have done up to this point in your life and remind yourself what you are capable of.

* Ask people to tell you what attracts you to them - get close friends or family to tell you what it is they see in you and what traits they like about you. We see ourselves so differently from how others see us and by them reminding us once in a while of the person they actually see and what they know we are capable of achieving can work wonders.

* Tackle the problem a different way - if you seem to be stuck in a rut with a problem and cannot seem to find the answer step away from it for a while and take a break. When you come back look at the problem from a different perspective, if possible write down on paper different ways the situation can be dealt with, choose one and stick with it.

* Don't be afraid to make a wrong decision - we all make wrong decisions sometime in our life because none of us are perfect and we don't have all the answers. Don't be afraid to go with your ideas and don't be afraid of what people will think of you if you make the wrong decision, at least you went for it and made a decision which counts for a lot.

* Forget about what other people think - do what's right for you or what feels right in the situation, it doesn't matter what other people might think, what's to say their ideas are any better than yours or are the right way to go, believe in yourself and what your capable of achieving.
