The use of affirmations have helped people deal effectively with many
different problems and are especially helpful for those who suffer from
depression, anxiety attacks and those who have low self-esteem issues.
An affirmation is simply a statement which you make to yourself to improve
an area of your life, in the case of those with low self-esteem issues;
affirmations are a positive statement made to boost the self-confidence.
People use affirmations on a daily basis without even realising it and
without realising the effect they have on our subconscious, an example
of this is if we get out of bed and feel ill, we could say "I feel really
awful", this is a negative affirmation which relates the state you are
in or how you are feeling.
However, by saying an affirmation such as this it can have an affect on
the subconscious and lead us to believe that we do in fact feel much worse
than we really are. Due to affirmations having this affect on our lives
and feelings we can use them to our advantage when it comes to more positive
thinking, to change how we feel for the better.
How are affirmations used?
Affirmations can be made in a number of different ways to help boost self-confidence;
there really isn't any right or wrong way to perform them providing of
course they are positive affirmations. The simplest way of performing
affirmations is to choose four or five that relate to your particular
problem and write them down on cards.
Throughout the day, you should read the affirmations either out loud or
quietly to yourself, affirmations shouldn't be too long and should be
easy to remember. One affirmation should be repeated four or five times
before moving onto the next affirmation and when repeating the affirmations
some feeling should be put into it.
You should also give what you are saying some thought and believe in the
words you are speaking, repeating your affirmations at intervals throughout
the day and spacing them out if possible at regular intervals. Another
method you can use when repeating your affirmation is visualising, this
will make the affirmation more effective.
Visualisations are simple and simply mean that when you are repeating
the affirmation you visualise the effect the affirmation is having, for
example if your affirmations relate to stopping the panic attacks you
have when you go to the shopping mall, then visualise yourself walking
into the mall calmly as you repeat the affirmation " I feel calm and relaxed".
This is only one way of course in which affirmations can help, affirmations
can relate to virtually anything you wish and can help you to overcome
any medical problems.
How quickly do affirmations work?
One of the biggest problems that people have is impatience, affirmations
can help but they aren't a miracle cure. You should remember that it took
a long time for your mind to develop bad habits and thoughts and feelings,
then so will it take time for new habits and thoughts to replace the old
bad ones.
Affirmations can help and most times, they start to help when we are not
consciously looking for improvements. It is not unusual for you to have
to repeat and stick with affirmations for over a month or so before your
subconscious begins to pick them up and changes are seen in your pattern
of thought, but it will happen.
